We are having tryouts for the 2015 All-Star teams this Sunday at the LAFA complex.
-We will start the day with the 11 and 12 yr old children @ 8:00am on Presidents field. This will be for the 11 yr old all-star team as well as the 11 and 12 yr old mixed team ( if participation allows ).
-The tryouts for the 8yr olds will begin @ 11:00m on Hale Field.
-The tryouts for the 9yr olds will begin @ 2:00pm on Hale Field.
-The tryouts for the 10yr olds will begin @ 4:00pm on Hale Field.
The tryout process will be run by coaches from the league and will test running, throwing, fielding and hitting. Coaches will also be looking for attitude, hustle and knowledge of the game. The evaluators will be both coaches and board members who know the game of baseball. These evaluators will vote based on what they observed at tryouts as well as what they have seen on the field during the season. The head coach for the team will be given the 10 players that received the highest number of votes for their age group and they are automatically on the team. The head coach's child is number 11. And then they choose 1 or 2 “Coach Picks” to round-out the team.
On the LAFA website, under “Documents” there is a commitment letter that must be signed and brought to tryouts with your child. This has a rough outline of the summer including tournament dates and cost.
If your child is going to be at tryouts, please email me asap so that I can build the evaluation sheets and prepare for the day. Drop-ins are welcome but a good headcount ahead of time will help tremendously.
Please have your child wear their full LAFA uniform and bring water. The tryout will last about an hour and half to two hours.
If your child is not able to make the tryout but is interested in participating on one of these teams, please email me as soon as possible. Your child will be placed on a list with the others that were at tryouts and considered, based on their season so far for one of the “Coach Picks”.
LAFA is a self-funded organization that provides the youth of Londonderry the opportunity to participate in organized baseball and softball.
