The objective of LAFA is to improve and refine player's skills, encourage sportsmanship, and develop an enjoyment for baseball and softball. LAFA is a volunteer run organization dependent on parent participation for successful operation.
Tryouts are set for this Saturday and Sunday at the Middle School gym. Times have been posted @ www.lafa.info and I wanted to answer a few common questions.
Q: What should my child bring/wear to tryouts?
A: Your child will need a glove, baseball pants or athletic pants and a hat. Bats and helmets are optional, we will have several for them to use. It is a good idea to have them wear a cup.
Q: Who needs to tryout?
A: We encourage all children age 9 through 12 to attend tryouts. We utilize the coach’s evaluations to draft our Double A and Majors teams as well as build well-balanced Single A and Triple A leagues. Anyone who would like to be selected in the draft must attend tryouts. If you cannot make tryouts we will place you on an undrafted team.
Q: What if I cannot make my designated time slot?
A: If you cannot make your time slot, you can utilize one of the standby spots within your age group. 9 and 10 yr old players will tryout on Saturday March 7th and 11 and 12 yr old players on Sunday March 8th. There are 2 standby spots in each 15 minute time slot. Just show up to the middle school gym and put your name on the list. Any further issues please reach-out to Greg Thistle.
Q: What are the coaches looking for?
A: The coaches will be checking mechanics and evaluating their baseball knowledge as well as are looking for the children to follow instructions and hustle.
